Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced counting by 1's and by 10's.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Maxwell's favourite season is winter.  We learned how to print his name properly.  We wrote 3 sentences about him and drew a picture of him to add to our class books.  After lunch we did mindfulness then we had gym.  We did the Terry Fox Run.  We were very tired after running/walking for 30 minutes.  We think Terry fox is amazing for running all day!  We learned a little more about Orange Shirt Day and why we are honouring it.  We are doing a smudge tomorrow so we made our offering.  We drew a picture of ourselves having a good year or we wrote words like "happy", "healthy" or "good year" on a small piece of paper.  We added those good thoughts to our offering pouch.  We each got 3 sets of 10 blocks in 3 different colours.  We used ...

 On Thursday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.   We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We worked on the letter D today.  We watched/listened to songs about the letter D and we brainstormed words that start with D.  We practiced printing the capital D and lowercase d on our whiteboards and in my printing books.  We drew pictures and labelled them.  We did mindfulness activities and we practiced for the Terry Fox run in gym.  We took a closer look at the leaves that have changed colour and fallen in the school yard.  We brought in a leave and did a quick leaf rubbing.  We made Chicka Chicka Boom Boom coconut trees out of paper and we added the letters of our name. Today we started with quiet reading and we changed the books in our book bins.  We did calendar and we practiced our counting songs.  We watched a video that talked about what the word "indigenous" means and how to use it....

 Yesterday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We did calendar.  We practiced counting by 1's and by 10's.  We worked on the letter T.  We talked about what sound it makes and we brainstormed things that start with T.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew pictures of things that start with T and we labelled them.  We had our first fire drill today.In math we worked on some patterns for our pattern books.  We made AAB and AABB patterns.  We talked about how we show Care for Others and how it links to our medicine wheel. Today we started with quiet reading and catch up tome (art).  We did calendar and we talked about what "opposite" means.  We practiced counting in different ways.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned how to print Amelia's name properly and we learned that Amelia  .  We wrote 2 sentences about her and we drew a picture of her for our class books.  We practiced for the Terry Fox run during gym.  We learned about the number 4.  We practiced printing it and we showed different ways to represent it.  We listened to a story about Terry Fox. Our annual Terry Fox Run is being held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.    We will be doing our run during our gym classes to maintain our cohorts and physical distancing.    Unfortunately, families are not allowed to come participate or watch due to COVID restrictions.    Please make sure your child is dressed read to run on that day.    Proper outdoor footwear is ...

 Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We did calendar and we practiced sorting.  We practiced counting and we practiced the days of the week and the months of the year.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned how to print Mugsy's name properly and we learned that Mugsy likes cheetahs.  We wrote two sentences about Mugsy and we drew a picture of him for our class book.  In math we worked on printing the number 2 properly (it is hard!).  We showed different ways to represent the number 2.   Today we started with quiet reading and calendar.  We practiced counting by 1's and by 10's.  We worked on the letter B.  We listened to and watched some letter B videos.  We brainstormed words that start with B.  We practiced printing the letter on our whiteboards and in our printing book.  We drew pictures of things that start with B and we labelled them.  In math we worked on AB and ABC patterns.  We start...

 Today we started with quiet reading.  We changed the books in our book bins so we have new books to read.  We also got to go to the library and pick out a book that we will keep in our desk.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced sorting.  We practiced the days of the week and the months of the year.  We practiced writing our names properly.  We made sure we have a capital at the beginning and a period at the end.  After lunch we did some mindfulness activities.  We worked on make patterns and non patterns in math.  We practiced them on our whiteboards then we put them in our math books. We started taking about how we show Care For Self and it's connection to the medicine wheel.

Yesterday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We did calendar and we practiced sorting by colour and saying our sorting rule.  We practiced counting to 20 by 1's.  We started our alphabet/printing.  We started with the letter P.  We talked about what sound it makes and we listened to some songs that helped us practice the sound and showed us words that start with P.  Together we brainstormed words that begin with P and we practiced printing capital and lowercase P's on our white board.  In our printing books we printed our very best letter P's and we drew at least one picture of something that starts with P and we labelled it.  We coloured mandela's and listened to calm music for mindfulness.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne in the gym.  We worked on patterns and non patterns in math.  We wrote how we show care for learning and made 1/4 of our medicine wheel with our writing.  Yesterday we started with catch up time (math) and quiet reading.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and practiced our days of the week and months of the year songs.  We also practiced counting by 1's by singing some songs.  We practiced 5 more pre printing lines and shapes.  We practiced them on our white boards and then we did them in our printing books.  We did such a great job that Mrs. Young gave us all a smelly sticker in our books.  After lunch we did some mindful breathing.  We continued working on our art project from last week.  We finished drawing ourselves with a mask on and then without.  We got to colour them with markers.  We went outside for gym.  We talked about the indigenous medicine wheel.  We will be using it to learn about a number of concepts this year.  We looked at pictures of the medicine wheel that is up on Nose Hill.  We did some GoNoodle and had some free time at the...

Yesterday we started with catch up and play dough time.  We did calendar.  We practiced our Days of the Week and Months of the Year Songs.  We practiced making our own patterns on our whiteboards (we each have a whiteboard that we keep in our desk).  We listened to a story called "Our Class is a Family".  We played on the playground at recess.  We started working in our printing books.  We started with some pre-printing lines and shapes.  We practiced the lines and shapes on our whiteboards then we practiced printing them in our printing books.  We finished this work after lunch.  We played tag in gym.  After gym we learned some mindfulness breathing activities.  After recess we started folding some paper for a guided drawing activity.  We will start the drawing part tomorrow.  Welcome to Grade One! We had a busy first day of school.  Once we got inside the school we found our coat hooks and hung up our jackets.  Inside the classroom we found our desks and played with play dough.  We got settled and we talked about some of the rules in our classroom.  We did calendar.  We will do this everyday.  We learned a "Days of the Week" song as well as a "Months of the Year" song.  We learned how to say/find the date.  We looked at a weather website to see the temperature and weather.  We will keep track of the weather everyday and at the end of the month we will graph it.  We are also keeping track of how many days we have been in school.  This helps us learn numbers and place value.  Everyday we will practice a math skill during our calendar time.  Today we practiced making patterns.   We went outside for recess.  During snack we listened to a story.  We did a writing activity i...
