Sept. 8
Yesterday we started with catch up time (math) and quiet reading. We had music with Mr. Weins. We did calendar and practiced our days of the week and months of the year songs. We also practiced counting by 1's by singing some songs. We practiced 5 more pre printing lines and shapes. We practiced them on our white boards and then we did them in our printing books. We did such a great job that Mrs. Young gave us all a smelly sticker in our books. After lunch we did some mindful breathing. We continued working on our art project from last week. We finished drawing ourselves with a mask on and then without. We got to colour them with markers. We went outside for gym. We talked about the indigenous medicine wheel. We will be using it to learn about a number of concepts this year. We looked at pictures of the medicine wheel that is up on Nose Hill. We did some GoNoodle and had some free time at the end of the day.
Today we started with quiet reading and catch up time (math and art). We did calendar. We practiced counting. We sang our months of the year and days of the week songs. We practiced making patterns and non patterns. We started Student of the Day. We will each have a turn being the Student of the Day. We started with Mrs. Young. We learned how to print her name properly on the "printing road". We asked her 5 questions and wrote 2 of her answers in sentences on the smart board. We copied at least one of the sentences on our paper. Some of us worote both sentences. We wrote her name as best we can on the "printing road" and we drew a picture of her. We will do this for each person in the class. When we are finished we will have a book of people in our class. We did mindfulness after lunch. We coloured mandalas while we listened to calming music. We had gym outside. In math we worked on the number one. We practiced printing it and it's number word in our printing book as neatly as we could with spaces between the numbers. We showed it in a ten frame and we showed it in one other way (domino, picture, dice, tally marks, or a number line). We looked at a medicine wheel that has mind, spirit, heart and body on it. We are connecting the 4 Pillars of Care to the medicine wheel. Today we started talking about how mind relates to Care for Learning. We talked about how we Care for Learning at school.
Yesterday we brought home a bunch of papers. The ones that are stapled together need to be read, signed (there is a spot at the end of the white information pages), fill out (only if they apply to your child) and returned by Friday.
We brought home a digital citizenship form on Friday (or on Tuesday if we were away on Friday). Please sign and return it as soon as possible.
Here are our mask/no mask self portraits!
