May 30

 Today we started with quiet reading and we changed our book bin books.  We had music.  We did calendar and we practiced our shapes.  We had literacy centers and we did word work.  We have new word wall words.  They are: Group A: work, that, playing, there, coming ("that" has a word family) Group B:  try, because, made, store, how, next ("store" and "how" have word families) Group C: "ou" words - about, four, house,, found, mouth Group D: he, him, my, you, of We did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym.  We learned about the difference between pyramids and prisms.  We did a bean plant observation.  Our plants grew a lot over the weekend! We sent home a permission slip for your child to participate in the Teacher's Pet Program that will be coming to our class on June 2.  Please sign and return the form as soon as possible.  The cost of this program is $6.00 (Thank you to Parent Council for subsidizing this program).

 We did a fantastic job at the Spring Concert last night.  Yesterday was a very busy day.  We started with quiet reading and we did calendar.  We had literacy centers.  We had a rehearsal for the Spring Concert.  We started some math assessments.  After lunch we had mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym outside.  We did a final rehearsal in front of the rest rest of the school.  We did iPads. May 25 – Spring Concert grades 1-3 at 6:00 pm - children should be in their classroom between 5:30 and 5:45pm.  Please bring a small stuffy to hold during the performance. They can bring them to school on Wednesday morning so they can rehearse with them. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books.  We had music with Mr. Wiens.  We did calendar and we practiced our 3D shapes.  We had literacy centers.  We did a making words activity. We used the letters: a, a, i, i, m, n, s to make different words.  We used all the letters to make a secret word.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym.  We did our basic facts test.  We learned about the parts of a plant and what they do.  We cut and glued parts of a plant together and we labelled them. Yesterday Mrs. Young was away.  The substitute teacher said we behaved very well.  We started with quiet reading.  We did calendar and we had literacy centers.  We started a sequencing activity.  First we listened to the story of the Three Bears.  We sequenced some pictures form the story.  We will write about each picture on Monday.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We did dance in gym.  In math we practiced sorting 3D shapes and in science we sorted living and non-living things.  Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books.  We did calendar and we had literacy centers.  We are working on making connections with stories to help with our understanding of stories.  We read "The Ok Book".  We wrote about 3 things we are ok at and 1 thing we are excellent at.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  In math we did our last 3D shape - the sphere.  We counted how many flat/curved faces, edges and vertices it has, as well as if it can roll or stack.  We "made" a sphere to bring home to show you.  We continued to learn the difference between living and non-living things. Today we started with quiet reading.  We had music with Mr. Wiens.  We had another dance residency session.  It is so much fun!  We did calendar and we had literacy centers.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We played with the badminton rackets and birdies.

Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books. We did calendar and we practiced our shapes. We had literacy centers. We wrote about how the main character in The Barnabus Project (Barnabus) changed from the beginning of the story to the end. We did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books. We had gym outside. We finished our Creating Colour paintings and our self evaluation of our work. We did Mathletics and RazKids on the iPads. Today we started with catch up time (writing and art). We did calendar and we had literacy centers. Our stories today focussed on feelings and how to deal with them (for Hats on for Mental Health day). We started talking about designing our own "perfect pet" like in The Barnabus Project. We will be "building" our pets next week or the week after.
