Yesterday we started by finishing our fall leaves for our medicine wheel.  We also worked on finishing our healthy food/treat sorting and our "Look at Me" books.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Jessica likes to eat strawberry ice cream. We practiced printing her name properly and we copied three sentences about her.  We drew a picture of Jessica for our Class Book.  We did stations in gym.  We did Raz Kids on the iPads. Today we started with making Halloween Counting books.  We had our Pillars of Care assembly.  Congratulations to this months winners.  They are: Care for Others: Ayyan - When Ayyan’s partner fell in the gym, he immediately went over to him and asked if he was ok. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We are reading our "Look at Me" books to Mrs. Young.  We are working on tracking the words as we read.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We worked on our "at" word family words.  We talked about the onset of a word (the letters before the vowel) and the rime (the rest of the letters).  We are excited to read our new words.  In gym we are using scoops and balls.  In math we continued working on shapes and counting their sides and vertices.  We started learning about our sense of smell.  In our Super Senses book we drew something we can smell.  Today we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We changed our book bin books.  We had music.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We discovered that we can make words with the letters/sounds we have worked on this year.  Today we worked on the word 'at' and it's word family (cat, bat, mat, sat, pat, fat, rat).  We worked on our own book called "Look at Me".  We filled in the colour words and coloured the pictures.  We can read this book ourselves.  We will finish our books tomorrow. Friday, October 29 - Children can wear their Halloween costume if they wish.  Please remember that regular masks (that cover the mouth and nose) are still required.  No violent costumes please and leave accessories that are weapons - e.g. gun, swords, etc should be left at home.  We will still be participating in gym so please make sure your child can move freely in their costume. Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We did calendar and we continued to work on names of shapes and how many sides and vertices they have.  We did a visualization activity.  We worked on the letter O.  We talked about the 2 sounds it makes and we practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures that start with O.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  In math we worked on sorting shapes.  We had a fire drill.  We showed the big kids how quiet we can be.  In science we talked about ways we can keep our eyes safe.  We started our Super Senses book.  We wrote that we see with our eyes and we drew something we can see. Yesterday we started with catch up time (Fall trees).  We changed our book bin books.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We had our pictures taken for picture day.We did calendar.  We practiced our 5 Little Pumpkins Poem.  After recess we did Student of the Day.  We learned that Seraphina likes to drink apple juice.  We copied 3 sentences about her and we drew a picture of her.  We printed her name correctly on the printing road.  We learned about Chenie Wenjack.  He was an indigenous boy who was sent to a residential school.  He wanted to go home so he tried to walk.  In gym we showed suppot by continuing his walk.  We practiced our letters and sounds.  In math we worked on the number 9.  We practiced printing it and we showed different ways of representing it.  In science we labelled a diagram of the eye. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We did calendar and we talked about some 2D shapes.  We did the 4th part of our 5 Little Pumpkins poem with visualization.  We learned about the letter G.  We talked about the 2 sounds it can make and we watched some letter G videos.  We brainstormed words that start with G.  We practiced printing the capital and lowercase G on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  In math we worded on the number 8.  We practiced printing it and we showed ways that we can represent it.  We did a guided drawing of a tree so we can make a fall tree tomorrow.  Yesterday we started by making a colour book called "The Colours of Fall".  We coloured the pictures to match the words.  We practiced reading our book.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced counting.  We started a visualization activity.  We listened to the first part of the the poem "5 Little Pumpkins".  We visualized what we heard and then we drew it.  We did the same for the second part.  We will do all five parts of the poem by the end of the week.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Kaylee   .  We drew a detailed picture of Kaylee and wrote her name properly.  We copied 3 sentences about Kaylee.  We will add this to our class book.  We did a Social Studies and Health activity.  We listened to a story called "What Makes Us Unique".  We talked about how we are all unique.  We talked about we all look different and that we are all good at different things.  In our journals we drew a picture of ourselves showing how we

 Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we talked about shapes.  We worked on the letter V.  We talked about what sound it makes and we watched letter V videos. We brainstormed words that start with V.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew pictures of V words and we labelled them.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we had gym.  We practiced adding and subtracting 1 using blocks.  We continued to talk about Fall.  We watched some videos and we talked about what plants, animals and people do in the fall.   Today we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We had our first Pillars of Care assembly.  Our winners this month are: Care for Self - Quentin - for expressing his needs and asking when he needs help Care for Place - Izzey - for helping to keep our classroom clean by sweeping up messes Care for Others - Artyom - for helping a new student in our class on his first day Care for Learning - Kiara - for consistently participating in class discussions by putting up her hand and not calling out Care for Respect - Kaylee - for consistently listening and following directions Congratulations to this months winners.  We did calendar and practiced some pattern songs.  We did a visualization activity where the children were asked to close their eyes and visualize a word (rainbow, ice cream, crayon, flower).  We drew pictures of the picture we had in our head.  We talked about how while many of our pictures looked similar, they were also very different.  We reviewed the letters and sounds
