Feb 28

 Today we started with quiet reading and we changed our book bins.  We did calendar and we practiced counting to 100 in different ways.  We started working on predicting to help our reading comprehension.  We looked at a picture and inferred how the boy was feeling.  We wrote to things about how we knew that.  Then we predicted what would happen next./We did literacy centers and word work.  We have new word wall words.  They are: Group A: said, ask, fun, got, cat ("fun" and "got" have word families - "cat" also has a word family, but we have already done it) Group B: did, I'm, ask, isn't, said, all ("all" and "did" have word families Group C: cube, hide, stripe, mistake, barcode Group D: Ii, Jj, is, am, my, you After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We made a graph of our February weather.  We continued with our 100th day activities.

Feb 25

Today is the 100th Day of school!  We started by making a 100th day headband.  We had our Pillars of Care assembly.  Congratulations to this months winners.  They are: Care for Others: Roaa: for noticing that someone left their sweater in the gym and bringing it to them. Care for Learning: Lea: for working hard on her letters and sounds! Care for Place: Michael: for helping to keep our classroom clean by volunteering to sweep and by picking things up off the floor, even when they are not his. Care for Self: Seraphina: for working hard on her basic facts to help her with math. Pillar of the Month:   Jessica: for always being kind to everyone, no matter who they are. We had a fire drill today. We did 100 exercises in gym. We did calendar and we practiced counting to 100. We started working on some 100th day activities. They are: writing numbers to 100, making a name quit using a 100 chart, making a 100 collection book and making a paper chain with 100 links. We will continue these

Feb 23

 Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books.  We did calendar.  The date was 2-22-22.  We started a time capsule that we can open on 3-3-33.  We will be in grade 12!  We also worked on this project in the afternoon.  We will bring it home today.  Please see the attached letter for more information and for ideas of what you can add to it at home.  We did literacy centers and we have new word wall words.  They are: Group A - she, are, book, name, little ("book" and "name" have word families) Group B - are, name, book, live, have, little ("book" and "name" have word families) Group C - sleep, cheese, cheerful, squeeze, weekend Group D - Rr, Hh, you, play, the, we Our word review will be on Friday.  We had gym and we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced subitizing.  We did a making words activity.  We cut out 7 letters (a, c, c, h, r, s, t).  Mrs. Young guided us through making different small words by moving or changing 1 letter.  At the end there was a secret word using all the letters.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym then we did literacy centers.  We practiced adding using a number line.  In science we brainstormed colours and started talking about primary colours (red, yellow, blue) and secondary colours (green, purple, orange). Today we started with catch up time (math) and quiet reading.  We did calendar and we did a number of the day.  We did the number 27.  We talked about what number is one more, one less, ten more and ten less.  We showed it on a number line, and in ten frames.  We had literacy centers.  We did our last Student of the Day.

Feb 14

Today we started with quiet reading and we changed our book bins.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We had a sharing circle.  We did literacy centers and word work.  We do not have new word wall words this week.  We put last weeks words in our dictionaries.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We did a Valentine's Day activity. No school Feb. 17th and 18th - Teacher's Convention.  We will not have new word wall words next week. No school - Monday Feb. 21 - Family Day

Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We did calendar and we did a making 10 activity.  We had literacy centers.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Quentin likes to eat pizza, hot dogs and spicy chicken bacon.  We copied 3 sentences about him and we wrote 2 of our own.  We printed his name properly and we drew a picture of him.  We will add our work to our class book.  After lunch we changed our home reading books and we finished our Student of the Day.  We had gym.  After recess, we did our sit spot activity outside.  After we sat quietly for about 10 minutes using our senses to connect with the land, we went inside and drew a picture of what we felt/saw/heard.  We continued to work on adding using a ten frame in math.   Today we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We did calendar and we practiced making different addition sentences to 10.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We had literacy centers and we did our word review.  Please continue practicing all word wa

Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we went to the library and got new library books.  We did calendar and we had literacy centers.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Kiara speaks english and Spanish.   We copied 3 sentences about Kiara and we wrote 2 of our own.  We printed her name properly on the printing road and we drew a picture of her.  We will add our work to our Class Books.  We did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads. Today we started with quiet reading.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We wrote in our journals.  We used the sentences starter "I love".  We wrote 3 - 5 sentences.  We did literacy centers.  In math, we learned how to do addition using ten frames. Today we started with quiet reading and we changed our book bins.  We watch some of Canada's medal winning performances at the Olympics.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We did a sharing circle.  We did literacy centers and word work.  We have new word wall words.  They are: Group A: they, yes, big, no maybe ("big" has a word family) Group B: what, she, chip, cat, with, will ("will" and "chip" have word families) Group C: own, towel, flower, know, snowplow Group D: Yy, Oo, you, on, the (we are doing "the" again because the children had trouble with this word) Our word review is on Friday.  Please practice the words with your child.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym.  We worked on our "snowman at work".  We wrote about the job our snowman does.  Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our book bin books.  It was Groundhog Day.  We made our own predictions about whether or not the groundhog will see his shadow.  We watched the videos 4 of the groundhogs in Canada and the United States.  1 of them predicted an early spring and the other 3 (including Balzac Billy) predicted 6 more weeks of winter (we will be lucky if we only get 6 more weeks of winter!).  We did calendar and literacy centers.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Maya likes Garfield.   We copied 3 sentences about her and most of us wrote 1 or 2 more sentences on our own.  We drew a picture of her and wrote her name properly on a printing road.  We will add our work to our Class Books.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  In math we learned how to use a number line to help ups add. Happy Lunar New Year to anyone who is celebrating today. Today we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books.  We did calendar We did an appreciation circle.  This is a safe place for us to share our feeling.  Because of our class size, only half of us are able to share each time.  We read the story "Snowmen at Work".  We talked about the different jobs that are important in the community. We did literacy centers and word work.  We have new word wall words.  They are: Group A:  had, was, up, will, have ("had" and "will" have word families).
