 Yesterday we started with catch up time and quiet reading.  We did virtual carol singing with the rest of the school.  We did calendar.  We talked about how some indigenous cultures celebrate the winter solstice.  We worked on the letter E.  We learned about two of the sounds it makes and we brainstormed words that start with E.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled words that start with E and some of us wrote sentences with E words in them.  We played floor hockey in gym.  We had literacy centers then we started an art project.  We drew a mitten, then we decorated it with pastels.  Tomorrow we will do a "wash" with watercolour paint. Today we had our Pillars of Care assembly.  Congratulations to this months winners.  They are: Care for Others:  Zayan - For picking up lost items and returning them to their owner.  Yesterday we started by watching a Alphablocks video.  We did calendar and we practiced drawing shapes.  We counted the sides and vertices of the shapes.  We did literacy centers.  We had indoor recess since it was so cold outside.  We learned about the letter C.  We talked about the 2 sounds it makes and we brainstormed words that begin with C.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures and some of us wrote sentences with C words in them.  After lunch we finished our C work.  We played floor hockey in gym and we had another indoor recess.  We wrote our numbers as high as we can go (or filled in missing numbers if we can write our numbers correctly to 100).  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads. Today we started with quiet reading and we changed our book bin books.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced naming shapes and identifying how many sides and vertices they have.  We did litercy centers and we have new word words.  They are Group A - in, it, my, go, like ("in", "it" and "like" have word families)                                                        Group B - in, it, is, my, go, like ("in", "it" and "like" have word families)                                                  Group C - they, thing, brother, mother, earth                                                                                                Group D - Ss, Tt, to, I Our word review will be on Friday.   We played floor hockey in gym.  We did a Google Maps tour of our community (Beddington Heights).  We listed things that are in our community (restaurants, grocery stores, schools, etc.).  We are drawing a map of our

Yesterday we had a substitute teacher for the morning.  Mrs. Young was doing individual assessments with individual children.  We were very respectful.  We started with quiet reading.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We had literacy centers.  We wrote at least three sentences in our journals by sounding out words.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our letters and sounds.  In math we continued doing  the math assessments.  We tried to figure out where a number falls on a number line and we did some quick adding and subtracting sentences.  In Social Studies we stated talking about our community and the things that are in it.  Our homework is to look around our community (while we are in the car or walking to and from school) to see what we can see. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced adding and subtracting 1.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Michael    .  We copied 3 sentences about him and some of us wrote our own sentences about him.  We wrote his name properly on the printing road and we drew a picture of Michael.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  We had gym.  We did literacy centers.  We did some of the math assessments.  We wrote numbers and we identified the larger number in a set.  Yesterday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We learned about the letter I and the sounds it makes.  We brainstormed words that start with I.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew pictures that start with I.  Some of us wrote sentences with I words in them.  We played alphabet bingo.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  We practiced our floor hockey passing skills in gym.  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads.   Today we started with quiet reading.  We did calendar and we practiced subitizing (identifying groups without counting).  We also practiced adding 1 to numbers.  We had gym in the classroom.  We did some Just Dance and some GoNoodle activities.  We practiced our 5 Senses poem.  We used our knowledge of the poem to put a mixed up version of it in order.  If we finished putting the poem in order we are bringing it home to read to you. Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We went to the library and got new books for our desks.  We did calendar and we made numbers using our base ten blocks.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that David likes to play Minecraft.  We copied three sentences about him and some of wrote at least one more by ourselves.  We drew a picture of David and we wrote his name.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We made a graph of our November weather.  In Science we learned about our sense of touch.  We did the touch page in our Super Senses Book.
