April 29

Yesterday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We had literacy centers.  We read the end of "The Barnabus Project". We drew and wrote about what happened at the end of the story.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We started painting our Creating Colour final project.  We were given yellow, blue and red (primary colours) paint.  We had to mix the colours to make different colours for our painting.    We used a checklist to make sure we had all three primary and secondary colour as well as a tint (lighter colour) and a shade (darker colour) in our painting.  we painted a background for our painting.  We will put it all together tomorrow.

Today we started with quiet reading or we could practice our word wall words.  We had our first live assembly in the gym.  We celebrated this months Pillar of Care winners.  They are:

Care for Others: Jessica - for helping another student when he slipped and fell on the ice

Care for Learning: Ava - for working hard to improve her reading and writing skills

Care for Place:. Jace - for putting away our home reading books where they belong

Care for Self: Amelia - for working hard every week on her word wall words to help improve her reading

Pillar of the Month: Faris - for doing a good job reflecting on our with sit spot activity


We did calendar and we graphed the weather we had in April. We had literacy centers and we did our word

review. Please check your child's backpack to see how they did. Please continue practicing all the word

wall words. We started assembling our Creating Colour picture. We cut out the pictures we painted and

we glued them onto our backgrounds.


Wednesday, May 4th is Hats on for Mental Health Day. Students may wear a hat at school.


It's Spring! That time of year again where everything is new and beautiful and growing!

Beddington Heights Elementary is happy to be Fundraising with Growing Smiles once again we will be selling beautiful hanging baskets, along with many varieties of potted plants.

Our Campaign is starting Friday April 29th - Friday May 13th.

Orders will arrive Thursday May 26th at Beddington Heights School

 Pick up time to be determined closer to delivery date.

 Yesterday we started by watching a Alphablocks video.  We did calendar and we practiced drawing shapes.  We counted the sides and vertices of the shapes.  We did literacy centers.  We had indoor recess since it was so cold outside.  We learned about the letter C.  We talked about the 2 sounds it makes and we brainstormed words that begin with C.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures and some of us wrote sentences with C words in them.  After lunch we finished our C work.  We played floor hockey in gym and we had another indoor recess.  We wrote our numbers as high as we can go (or filled in missing numbers if we can write our numbers correctly to 100).  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books (we keep them in our desk).  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced making numbers using ones blocks and tens rods.  We Filled in missing words in our Fall Changes book.   We used our poems to help us spell the words.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds by doing our gumball activity.  In gym we used scooters.  We worked on the number 11.  We got out 11 blocks and we used them to make different number sentences (e.g. 5+6=11).  We practiced printing it and we showed different ways that we can represent 11.  We started talking about our families today.  We shared things we like to do with our family.
