April 25

 Today we started with quiet reading and we changed our book bin books.  We did calendar and we practiced our shapes.  We started a book study.  We are reading "The Barnabus Project" and doing different activities throughout the week.  Today we did a preview of the book.  We did literacy centers and word work.  Our new word wall words are:

Group A: then, back, do, good, see ("then" and "back" have word families)

Group B:  first, away, last, your, saw, can't ("last" and "saw" have word families)

Group C: words ending with "es" goes, pushes, boxes, crashes, finishes

Group D: us, said, of, went

After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We had a fire drill today.  It was at the end of our recess time so we just stayed outside.   In math we learned about cones.  We counted how many flat/curved faces, edges and vertices it has, as well as if it can roll or stack.  We cut and glued together a cone for us to bring home to show you.  We talked about what we wanted to paint for our Creating Colours final project.

 Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We changed our library books.  We did calendar and we practiced adding and subtracting.  We learned about the letter W.  We talked about the sound it makes and we brainstormed words that start with W.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures that start with W and some of us wrote sentences that have W words in it.  Yesterday we started by watching a Alphablocks video.  We did calendar and we practiced drawing shapes.  We counted the sides and vertices of the shapes.  We did literacy centers.  We had indoor recess since it was so cold outside.  We learned about the letter C.  We talked about the 2 sounds it makes and we brainstormed words that begin with C.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures and some of us wrote sentences with C words in them.  After lunch we finished our C work.  We played floor hockey in gym and we had another indoor recess.  We wrote our numbers as high as we can go (or filled in missing numbers if we can write our numbers correctly to 100).  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books (we keep them in our desk).  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced making numbers using ones blocks and tens rods.  We Filled in missing words in our Fall Changes book.   We used our poems to help us spell the words.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds by doing our gumball activity.  In gym we used scooters.  We worked on the number 11.  We got out 11 blocks and we used them to make different number sentences (e.g. 5+6=11).  We practiced printing it and we showed different ways that we can represent 11.  We started talking about our families today.  We shared things we like to do with our family.
