Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we went to the library and got new library books.  We did calendar and we had literacy centers.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Kiara speaks english and Spanish.   We copied 3 sentences about Kiara and we wrote 2 of our own.  We printed her name properly on the printing road and we drew a picture of her.  We will add our work to our Class Books.  We did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads.

Today we started with quiet reading.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We wrote in our journals.  We used the sentences starter "I love".  We wrote 3 - 5 sentences.  We did literacy centers.  In math, we learned how to do addition using ten frames.

We started the "Reading...Give it a Shot!" program.  We will be tracking the students reading minutes and they will receive an animal card for each 30 minutes that they read.  They will get credit for 10 minutes each time they return their home reading book and we will also track the minutes they read in class.

We will be doing a "sit spot" activity tomorrow.  This is part of our journey in learning about the indigenous ways of knowing.  We will be sitting outside and using ours senses to connect with the land.  The weather is suppose to be nice all week and the ground should be dry but we are still asking that the students wear snow pants on Thursday so they can sit comfortably on the grass.  We will be doing this activity for about 10 minutes.

Mr. Hebert sent out his February Principals message last week.  He has decided that we will not be able to exchange Valentines.  Please see his message for more information.

Parents – just a reminder that our patrollers are on duty each morning in rain, snow, and fine weather (We do not patrol on blue days).  Could you please wait until they call, ‘Point, double-check, and proceed,’ before making your way between the pylons and safely across the street.   

 

Patroller schedules were sent home today! Please ensure your children are familiar with their day and time. We are only doing morning patrols for now. Please arrive at 7:45 am, get ready, be on the crosswalk with your team at 7:50 am. Shifts end just after 8:00 then students will head to class. Subs should also be on time in case they are needed! 

 

Please also be aware of our parking guidelines. 

They are: 

-no parking for any length of time in the bus zone!  

-no parking within 5 metres of a stop sign or cross walk or corner of 2 streets (Tell them they should be able to take 5 large steps between their vehicle and any of these)  

-stay out of the staff parking lot

 Yesterday we started by watching a Alphablocks video.  We did calendar and we practiced drawing shapes.  We counted the sides and vertices of the shapes.  We did literacy centers.  We had indoor recess since it was so cold outside.  We learned about the letter C.  We talked about the 2 sounds it makes and we brainstormed words that begin with C.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures and some of us wrote sentences with C words in them.  After lunch we finished our C work.  We played floor hockey in gym and we had another indoor recess.  We wrote our numbers as high as we can go (or filled in missing numbers if we can write our numbers correctly to 100).  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books (we keep them in our desk).  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced making numbers using ones blocks and tens rods.  We Filled in missing words in our Fall Changes book.   We used our poems to help us spell the words.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds by doing our gumball activity.  In gym we used scooters.  We worked on the number 11.  We got out 11 blocks and we used them to make different number sentences (e.g. 5+6=11).  We practiced printing it and we showed different ways that we can represent 11.  We started talking about our families today.  We shared things we like to do with our family.
