Yesterday we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We had music with Mr. Weins. We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Zayan likes to eat watermelon.  We copied 3 sentences about him and most of us wrote 1 or 2 more sentences on our own.  We drew a picture of Zayan and wrote his name properly on the printing road.  We will add our work to our class book.   After lunch we did mindfulness and we changed our home reading books.  We had gym.  We did literacy centers.  In Science we watched some videos to get an idea about what people do in the winter.  We did our basic facts test.   

Today we started with quiet reading.  We had our Pillars of Care assembly.  Congratulations to this months winners.  They are:

Care for Others: Maxwell - for always being kind to others and playing with many different children at recess.

Care for Learning: David - for working hard on his reading, writing and math skills.

Care for Place: Ava - for helping to clean our classroom up after we have done art.


Care for Self: Faris - for working hard to improve his skills in all areas


Pillar of the Month (wisdom): Sedra - for sharing her knowledge in kind and respectful ways


We did calendar and we had gym. We graphed our January weather. We had literacy centers and we had our word review. Please check you child's backpack to see how they did. Please continue practicing all of our word wall words. We put our words in our dictionaries. In science, we used the information that we learned about plants, animals and people in the winter to start to draw a winter picture. We needed to include at least one thing from each category (plants, animals, people). We will use a checklist so we could write about what we drew and make sure we had one picture of each. We will continue this work on Monday.

 Yesterday we started by watching a Alphablocks video.  We did calendar and we practiced drawing shapes.  We counted the sides and vertices of the shapes.  We did literacy centers.  We had indoor recess since it was so cold outside.  We learned about the letter C.  We talked about the 2 sounds it makes and we brainstormed words that begin with C.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures and some of us wrote sentences with C words in them.  After lunch we finished our C work.  We played floor hockey in gym and we had another indoor recess.  We wrote our numbers as high as we can go (or filled in missing numbers if we can write our numbers correctly to 100).  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books (we keep them in our desk).  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced making numbers using ones blocks and tens rods.  We Filled in missing words in our Fall Changes book.   We used our poems to help us spell the words.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds by doing our gumball activity.  In gym we used scooters.  We worked on the number 11.  We got out 11 blocks and we used them to make different number sentences (e.g. 5+6=11).  We practiced printing it and we showed different ways that we can represent 11.  We started talking about our families today.  We shared things we like to do with our family.
