Dec 8

Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books.  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced adding and subtracting 1.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that Michael    .  We copied 3 sentences about him and some of us wrote our own sentences about him.  We wrote his name properly on the printing road and we drew a picture of Michael.  After lunch we did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  We had gym.  We did literacy centers.  We did some of the math assessments.  We wrote numbers and we identified the larger number in a set.

Today we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We did calendar and we practiced naming shapes and counting sides and vertices.  We did literacy centers.  Today we worked on the letter Y.  We practiced it's sound and we brainstormed words that begin with Y.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures of Y words and we wrote sentences that have Y words in them.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  We had gym.  We did a basics facts sheet and we did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads.

For the next two weeks we will be doing literacy and math assessments set out for us by the Provincial government to determine gaps caused by COVID 19.

December Spirit Day is the last day of school this term, Friday Dec 17th, and it will be Festive Holiday themed.  That could mean, ugly holiday sweaters, dress as Santa or his elves or his reindeer or a snowmen/women, or even a lit-up holiday tree! Basically, anything to get into that holiday cheer!

With the holiday season soon approaching it's important to care for others and give back to those who are less fortunate than us.  This holiday season, Beddington Heights School will be a part of 2 programs that the city of Calgary runs for those less fortunate.
The first program is Loonies for Lunches.  Loonies for Lunches would bring students together to collect loonies to donate to the food bank.  The loonies will be used by the Food Bank to purchase food for our Weekends and More program that makes sure kids get the nutritious food they need on the weekends to stay healthy and learning.
The Mayor's Food Drive is where we collect non-perishable items, i.e. can goods, sealed boxed items, for Calgary's Food Bank.  Both programs start this Monday to Dec 14th.
