Dec 1

Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We went to the library and got new books for our desks.  We did calendar and we made numbers using our base ten blocks.  We did Student of the Day.  We learned that David likes to play Minecraft.  We copied three sentences about him and some of wrote at least one more by ourselves.  We drew a picture of David and we wrote his name.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  We had gym with Mrs. Sterne.  We made a graph of our November weather.  In Science we learned about our sense of touch.  We did the touch page in our Super Senses Book.

Today we started with quiet reading.  We had music.  We did calendar and we practiced counting in different ways.  We brainstormed different "touch" words (e.g. soft, hard, rough, etc.).  In our journals we wrote at least 3 sentences starting with "I feel".  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  We had gym.  We had a fire drill.  In math we worked on adding 1 to numbers to 20.

December Spirit Day is the last day of school this term, Friday Dec 17th, and it will be Festive Holiday themed.  That could mean, ugly holiday sweaters, dress as Santa or his elves or his reindeer or a snowmen/women, or even a lit-up holiday tree! Basically, anything to get into that holiday cheer!

With the holiday season soon approaching it's important to care for others and give back to those who are less fortunate than us.  This holiday season, Beddington Heights School will be a part of 2 programs that the city of Calgary runs for those less fortunate.
The first program is Loonies for Lunches.  Loonies for Lunches would bring students together to collect loonies to donate to the food bank.  The loonies will be used by the Food Bank to purchase food for our Weekends and More program that makes sure kids get the nutritious food they need on the weekends to stay healthy and learning.
The Mayor's Food Drive is where we collect non-perishable items, i.e. can goods, sealed boxed items, for Calgary's Food Bank.  Both programs start this Monday to Dec 14th.
