Today we started with quiet reading and catch up time.  We had our first Pillars of Care assembly.  Our winners this month are:

Care for Self - Quentin - for expressing his needs and asking when he needs help
Care for Place - Izzey - for helping to keep our classroom clean by sweeping up messes
Care for Others - Artyom - for helping a new student in our class on his first day
Care for Learning - Kiara - for consistently participating in class discussions by putting up her hand and not calling out
Care for Respect - Kaylee - for consistently listening and following directions

Congratulations to this months winners. 
We did calendar and practiced some pattern songs.  We did a visualization activity where the children were asked to close their eyes and visualize a word (rainbow, ice cream, crayon, flower).  We drew pictures of the picture we had in our head.  We talked about how while many of our pictures looked similar, they were also very different.  We reviewed the letters and sounds that we have done so far this year (p, b, t, d, f)

 Yesterday we started with quiet reading.  We changed our library books.  We did calendar and we practiced adding and subtracting.  We learned about the letter W.  We talked about the sound it makes and we brainstormed words that start with W.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures that start with W and some of us wrote sentences that have W words in it. We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds.  In math we worked on the number 12.  We talked about different ways to represent 12 including making addition sentences.  We did a listening game in Science.  We listened to different sounds and tried to identify them.  Yesterday we started by watching a Alphablocks video.  We did calendar and we practiced drawing shapes.  We counted the sides and vertices of the shapes.  We did literacy centers.  We had indoor recess since it was so cold outside.  We learned about the letter C.  We talked about the 2 sounds it makes and we brainstormed words that begin with C.  We practiced printing it on our whiteboards and in our printing books.  We drew and labelled pictures and some of us wrote sentences with C words in them.  After lunch we finished our C work.  We played floor hockey in gym and we had another indoor recess.  We wrote our numbers as high as we can go (or filled in missing numbers if we can write our numbers correctly to 100).  We did Mathletics and Raz Kids on the iPads. Yesterday we started with quiet reading and we changed our library books (we keep them in our desk).  We had music with Mr. Weins.  We did calendar and we practiced making numbers using ones blocks and tens rods.  We Filled in missing words in our Fall Changes book.   We used our poems to help us spell the words.  We did mindfulness and we practiced our sounds by doing our gumball activity.  In gym we used scooters.  We worked on the number 11.  We got out 11 blocks and we used them to make different number sentences (e.g. 5+6=11).  We practiced printing it and we showed different ways that we can represent 11.  We started talking about our families today.  We shared things we like to do with our family.
